Cutco Knife Giveaway!!

I am super excited about this one guys!  I recently was in contact with the amazingly friendly people from Cutco Canada who asked me to review their knives...

And also host a giveaway!

I was immediately excited - I had heard such great things about these knives but never actually had the chance to own one.

They sent me a package with three products:
From left to right:
3721 - Santoku–Style Trimmer
2166 - 5" Petite Santoku
1501 - Vegetable Peeler
Retail value: $239 CDN

CUTCO has been in business since 1949 and is known for what is called a Double D® edge. It’s like 3 straight edges recessed between the points so it cuts clean - not like the ripping and tearing that you get with serrated edges. The points help protect the blade itself from hitting the cutting board, plate, etc which can dull a knife. On average the Double D® edge stays sharp about 7-10 years before needing sharpening.

All CUTCO knives come with a Forever Guarantee.  If you are ever unsatisfied with the performance of your CUTCO knife, they will fix or replace the knife for free.  You can also send in your CUTCO knife for free sharpening, you just pay for the shipping and handling.

I have been using my knives and the peeler regularly for the last few weeks and I can't believe I went so long without them.  Slicing and chopping has never been easier and more precise.  They are fantastic knives and I know they will last me a lifetime.  Seriously, I don't think I'll ever need to buy knives again.

Oh, and check this out... the products are made in the USA! (When is the last time you saw that?!)

Contest!

  1. I would love to win these knives! All my knives suck and are super dull. I would love a set to make lots of Gluten-Free Vegan Lasagna!! Oh, and some Gluten-Free Vegan Chili. Oh, oh, oh and maybe some Gluten-Free Apple Crumble cupcakes. Mmm....

  2. 3721 - Santoku–Style Trimmer is the knife I'd be most excited to try. I need a good serrated knife and they are hard to come by!
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  3. I love cutting tomatoes with a really sharp knife..its really the only way, otherwise it is just frustrating and makes a mess! I would love to win these knifes :)

  4. My knives are so dull that when I use them, foods tend to shred rather than cut, haha. I would love to use these tools to make some homemade vegetarian sushi. The peeler to peel some cucumber and carrots, and the 5" Petite Santoku to cut them into fine matchsticks!

  5. I would love to use this knife to cut into the key lime pie or any of the amazing breads from Turtle Dove's Bakery in Burlington. My daughter avoids the knife currently and goes straight at the pie with a spoon. Maybe with these knives we could cut a slice faster than she could get at it with a spoon.

  7. The knives from Cutco are amazing. I wish I had more. They make chopping and peeling so much easier. The potatoe peeler even gets used by me, who finds that task usually tedious. The bread knife slices so nicely through fresh bread. If I had the large Santoku Chopper
it would make chopping veggies for stir frys so much easier. I have purchased some essential knives for my grown up kids, as they got real used to the quality when they were at home.

  8. I would so love to win the veggie peeler. Mine is on its last legs and I love to make zucchini ribbons and carrot ribbons for salads. My children love the zucchini ribbons with a bit of pasta sauce too and it is a healthy, and gluten-free way to have a dish reminiscent of pasta. It's also a great way to sneak in more veggies.

  10. These knives would be great for me! I would use them to cut the almond bread that I have been trying to perfect (actually, perfect is an overstatement....I just need it to be edible!). I would use the knives to cut my loaf since it's currently hard as a rock! Haha. I'd use the peeler to peel sweet potatoes for my little ones who are currently on a sweet potato fry kick!

I would love to use these knives for anything and everything! The knives I have now are not the friendliest. They make bread crumbs out of my fresh bread and shred my chicken instead of slicing (when trying to cut it raw!)
My daughter will love the peeler..her new found "interest" is peeling ALL the veggies in the house when we bring home the groceries.

  12. My parents have been using cutco knives for years - they are amazing! After I moved out I've been hoping to get some of my own (my non-cutco knives just don't compare) so I'd love to win these knives!! I would look forward to using the Santoku–Style Trimmer and Petite Santoku to cut all of the local fruits and vegetables that are coming into season.

The best knives ever made. I DON'T have the Santoku-Style Trimmer of the 5" Santoku. They would be an excellent addition to my set. Sandra Hayter

That way I can cut my sandwich with my knife and his gluten-full sandwich with his knife and not have to worry about which order I am cutting in.

  15. I have been in Meghan Telpner's Culinary Nutrition expert program for the last 5 weeks and am in desperate need of good knives and peeler to make even more delicious gluten-free meals. I don't even know where I would begin though I suspect everything in my fridge would wind up peeled and/or chopped into a fine dice just to test these products out...I may also have to wrestle my kitchen knife obsessed boyfriend to even get to use them. That serrated knife would probably cut through my homemade gluten-free pita bread really well...

Since I am the only person in the home that cooks, I would be using these knives to prepare each and every meal. Specifically what would I cook, probably some Red Curry with vegetables, served over jasmine rice. mmmmmm...

  19. I would love to make some gluten free vegetarian milestone soup. I'm newly Celiac and was never much of a cook before but I'm learning slowly and what I've learned is that you really need to chop everything into the same size pieces!! Let's just say my dinners have had interesting textures :-)

  20. WOW!! I haven't had much luck with my knives lately!! Cut myself one too many times! I think if I had better knives that I wouldn't get cut since I wouldn't have to struggle to cut things. I am always chopping or slicing veggies for the kids and I for a snack. I use my veggie peeler to remove the "strings" from celery so my kids don't choke. I made GF corn bread today and the serrated knife would have been perfect to cut through...I used a steak knife!! lol! If I had proper knives, I think I wouldn't have to open up the first-aid kit as often...that's a good thing!! right?!?!? ; )

  21. These look amazing! There are so many things I would use them for. This summer I would be making a beet & quinoa salad or a thinly sliced veggies on the grill. A hearty chili of squash soup in fall. Kale hash with slices of smoked sausage in winter. And gluten free rhubarb coffee cake in spring. Especially the Petite Santoku looks wonderful!! My name as it appears on Facebook is Silvia Holtrop. And my mouth is now watering thinking of all the yummy things I could make with these knives.

  24. The knife I would look forward to using most would be the Petite Santoku, to speed up slicing and dicing. I don't have a knife of this type yet, but I think it would be very handy. A good serrated knife and veggie peeler would also be very useful. I have to work from a seated position (in a wheelchair), so having a decent knife that retains a good edge is extremely important. Working while seated does not allow you to put the pressure on the blade that you might normally be able to, and the angles are different, which slows me down.

  28. I would look forward to cutting a gluten free bread loaf with that Trimmer knife. What a pleasure that would be - instead of squishing it down as I currently do seeing as I do not have such a knife. This would be make me incredibly happy. I also would peel eggplant strips for 'bacon' with the peeler. That would be fantastic. I do not have a main sharp knife that doesn't squish tomatoes. I really, really dislike that about my current knife. They're all fantastic.

  29. Cutco knives are THE BEST knives ever!! I have a set of them, and I actually don't have any of the knives that you're giving away here... but I LOOOOVE my knives so much. I would REALLY love the peeler, especially, since I just have a cheap, dollar store peeler right now. it takes forever to get through my veggies with that thing. I know the Cutco one would serve me WAY better.

  30. Hi - oh to have sharp knives.... tomatoes that don't get squashed, sandwiches that the fillings don't ooze out the side as you press and gluten free bread that does not disintegrate at the touch of a blade.... carrots and potatoes to be peeled without hitting the window with the peelings... and to not be tempted to steal a handsaw to get through a steak.. now THAT would be utopia!!!!

as thin as you want,as well as all other vegetables. The bread knife is also amazing for thin or thicker sliced bread and uniform.Whether it is meat vegetables, bread, potatoes,or peeling they are the best knives in the market, and make cooking easier. The pearl handles fit your hand perfectly. We thought they were a little expensive when we bought them but with the forever guarantee we took a chance and have been happy for 20 years, and they still look new.Cutco has come through with there guarantee to fix a tip and sharpen them when needed.Tale a chance you will not regret it. 47. As a result of a terrible fall a couple of years ago I dislocated my arm, tore the ligaments and tendons from my shoulder to hand, broke the humerus and snapped off my elbow, I now have a prosthetic elbow. After 2 years of intensive physio I have regained partial use of my arm and hand but still have difficulty when trying to cut, slice or chop anything. Living alone makes it rather difficult to ask for someone to help with the preparation of veggies and other foods that need slicing and chopping. Having a beautiful set of knives such as the Cutco, cooking might become enjoyable for me again. If I had to pick just one of the items shown I would choose the 2166 - 5" Petite Santoku so I could get back to making and enjoying the healthy foods I use to make prior to my accident. Thank you Cutco for offering these products for this give a way. My Facebook name is Bev Johnson.

  48. Hi Jax! Thank you for doing this blog, it's much appreciated! I am a Registered Holistic Nutritionist (RHN) and also own an organic beverage bar - I make smoothies and juices using fresh fruit and veggies! I'm in the process of restructuring, and plan to apply to become certified gluten-free, as many of my clients are gluten-sensitive/intolerant. I don't serve anything with gluten, so it makes good sense! It would be so helpful to have a good set of knives/peeler, as mine aren't very good, and I cut up a ton of fruit/veggies every day! Thank you for your consideration!

The knives I have now are about 7 years old and it's too much of a hassle to get them sharpened. 73. Well, clearly many, MANY of us think that these Cutco knives would be wonderful to have in our kitchens! Personally, the one I'd reach for first would be the Santuko-style trimmer. It looks like a serious knife and I cut a lot of serious veggies. I find that with grains being problematic and dairy a no-no, I've had to increase my veggie intake tremendously. Cutting all those veggies (turnips, zucchini, eggplant, okra, kale, sweet potatoes, etc.) takes lots of time. And I'm really tired of the dull blade of my knife winging off to one side whenever I try to cut straight down. Plus that beauty would more than replace the Henkel knife we got for a wedding present 22 years ago whose point broke off in a particularly tough turnip a few years back. :-) Trudee Romanek

  83. I would love to win as my knives are OLD and dull and the handles are falling off! I peel a LOT of apples for my 1 year old son (Ithink I am a pro now), and I am in desparate need of a couple fo sharp knives. Fingers crossed!

  84. I would love these for cutting my favourite bread from "From the Wild Mountain Gluten Free Bakery"!!! I freeze my bread & almost always forget to cut it before throwing it in the freezer. I bet Cutco knives would cut through the frozen bread like butta!
Oh and the peeler --- why is it all my peelers rust?! Maybe Cutco's wouldn't!

  87. Hi Jax. What a great contest! Being in the specialty food/kitchenware industry for years I have had the chance to preview, sell and own some of the best knives around and am very curious to see how these CUTCO knives would stack up - especially the 5" petite santuko. I have used the 4" Wusthof chefs knife and can imagine that the 5" santuko would be perfect for any persons kitchen. Again, thanks for the opportunity and good luck to all the other entries.

  88. I've been living gluten-free for health reasons since 2008 and have a well-stocked kitchen to help me cook and bake a variety of delicious and healthy foods at home (with my parents). My boyfriend loves to cook but has been a confirmed bachelor for years, so his kitchen isn't so well-stocked. He's eager to learn about cooking gluten-free and tries really hard to ensure I always have food to eat when staying at his place. (We live two hours apart and take turns visiting.) He really is a great chef -- he's made me gluten-free french onion soup, bruschetta, chicken alfredo, and all sorts of other delicious foods. He's got some food allergies, too, so eating out is challenging, to say the least. And we love cooking together, usually stir-fries. But his knive selection really sucks. All of these CUTCO products would be a great help for when we cook together! For instance, right now, he doesn't even have a vegetable peeler, or any serrated blade except a steak knife! But I know that the Petite Santoku would be the most useful and something we could both use when cooking yummy gluten-free foods together. I'm already salivating at the thought of his Thai green curry...

  90. My roommate is gluten intolerant, and has been indoctrinating me- though I do not have a known gluten allergy I do feel better with less gluten in my diet!

I would love the petite Santoku to cut up cherry tomatoes for salads and tomato and onion tarts. I try to keep at least one knife sharp enough for the little buggers, but so often they end up squished instead of cut!

The serrated blade would be amazing for soft breads.

  93. My husband does most of the cooking, and he would LOVE the Santoku-style trimmer and petite santoku. Me, I'm more basic - I want the peeler! For peeling fresh fruits and veggies to make my daily fresh juices! Definitely a staple in my house.

  94. I could really use these Cutco Knives. Due to circumstances beyond my control I am living in a home where I am the only one gluten free. I am contantly re washing cutlery before using it and insist on my own cutting board. If I could have my own set of knives totally only for me my life would be a little easier without worrying about cross contamination. I have to cook from scratch and would use the knives to chop veggies, fruits, slice bread and peel potatoes and carrots without woorring about getting sick. They would be off limits and used only by me.

  95. These Cutco knives would be great for preparing Guacamole!!! YummY!!! A nice sharp knife to cut open the avacado...to chop up some red onion...and especially one for the cherry tomatoes, a sharp knife is a must for any kind of tomoatoe. Add some lemon juice and a little sour cream with Epicures gluen free guacamole spice and I would be set!!!
    Thanks so much.....

  96. My 6 year old son has a gluten intolerance and so I am constantly chopping and peeling veggies as that has become our default snack in this house (healthier which makes me happy at least). I LOVE the fact that these knives have a forever guarantee and won't need to be sharpened for 7-10 YEARS!?!!! Amazing!!!
My current kitchen set is dull and I actually find chopping with a steak knife more effective than my proper kitchen knives! LOL

  97. Thank you for doing this contest!! Since I found out I needed to go GF, you guys have been a lifesaver!

I would love to win these knives. I recently found out that I can no longer eat gluten or dairy. It has been quite an overwhelming change for me. As a student and mother, it is a stuggle to find the time and money to learn all these new recipes. Making all my food from scratch is very empowering, but it is a lot of work. Using steak knives is frustrating, but it is all I have. I would use these knives for everything from peeling anf chopping veggies for sushi and spring rolls, to quartering chickens. Oh and don't for get the serrated knife for slicing my home made GF bread :)

  98. If I won these knives, the entire set would be used right away to make gluten free moo goo gai pan, the best way I know how to get the kids to eat a ton of vegetables that they normally wouldn't touch! My current peeler is a hazard and my knives are old and chipped. It would be such a treat to prepare dinner with a new set! Thanks for the opportunity.

  99. I'm a college student and I've been gluten intolerant and vegan for a year and a half now. I will be finally moving out of the dorms this summer which means I will be learning to cook gluten free meals for the first time on my own (the residence cafeteria provided GF pasta for me!). I will be starting from scratch purchasing all new dishes and cutlery to ensure zero contaimination, and I am looking forward to re-learning how to cook and maintain a healthy diet. These knives would make a great help for beginning my GF kitchen adventures, from peeling and chopping vegetables to slicing homemade GF bread.

  100. These knives look beautiful! I would be so excited to use the Santoku to slice my homemade GF multigrain bread. Slicing bread with my current knifes makes for quite an uneven mess. As a start, I would love trying the petite Santoku to make easy work of my sweet potato fries. I would imagine it would chop up my parmesean potatoes in a snap, too! The peeler looks appealing since I have been looking for a good peeler for a very long time. I have thrown out more peelers than I can count and get quite frustrated come apple season. I make a maple apple chutney that is a favorite for my whole family (extended as well). I seem to be peeling and chopping more and more apples every year. I would be ever so thankful to you and Cutco for an opportunity to use these great knives!

I have arthritis in my hands & carpel tunnel, so really good knives to cut onions & tomatoes & even bread would be a blessing! Also, a really good peeler that glides would be great so my hands don't cramp up! Thanks so much for the wonderful opportunity! btw I actually picked up one of your business cards at Portions on Sat. Can't wait for next Sunday for the shopping day at Bingemans! xo
